How to Stream PC & Mobile Movies to Android TV / Smart TV

Overview: Why RideStream for Smart TVs?
Traditional screencasting (like DLNA or Miracast) often mirroring your entire phone screen, wasting battery and displaying notifications on the TV. Chromecast requires internet access and third-party cloud auth.
RideStream streams the raw media file directly over your home Wi-Fi (LAN). Your TV acts as an independent native player with full remote D-Pad navigation, native-resolution playback, and hardware acceleration.
What You Need
- Smart TV / Streaming Box: Any device running Android TV or Google TV (Nvidia Shield, Chromecast with Google TV, Xiaomi Mi Box/Stick, Sony/TCL/Philips Android TVs).
- Host Device: A Windows PC (Windows 10/11) or Android smartphone containing your movie or music files.
- Local Wi-Fi Network: Both the host PC/phone and TV connected to the same Wi-Fi router (5 GHz recommended for high-resolution streaming).
- RideStream Application: Installed on both the host device and the TV.

Step-by-Step Assistant: Setting Up Android TV

Install RideStream on your Smart TV:
On your Android TV or Google TV, open the Google Play Store. Use the search bar to search for
RideStreamand click Install. -
Start Host Mode on your PC or Smartphone:
Open RideStream on your PC or phone holding your movies. Click the Cast Icon 📡 in the top bar and tap Host Stream (or toggle Auto Host Mode for always-on background server availability).

Launch Receiver Mode on your TV:
Open RideStream on your TV using your TV remote. Navigate to Receiver Mode and press OK. RideStream will automatically scan your Wi-Fi network and discover your PC host server.

Browse & Play with your TV Remote:
Select your host server from the list. Use your TV remote arrow keys to browse Server Playlists, pick a movie, and press OK to start streaming at its native resolution!
🔧 Troubleshooting Smart TV Streaming
❓ TV Says "Host Not Found" When Scanning?
- Check Wi-Fi Network: Verify both TV and PC are connected to the exact same Wi-Fi network (make sure TV is not on a Guest network).
- Peers must be visible: Guest SSIDs, router "AP/Client Isolation", and public/hotel Wi-Fi prevent the TV from seeing the host. Move both devices to the same non-guest network.
- Windows Firewall: Ensure Windows Firewall on your PC allows incoming connections on port
9191and UDP8082(discovery). See Host Firewall Guide. - Enter IP Manually: On your TV, select "Connect by IP" and type your PC's IP address (e.g.
192.168.1.100). If the PC hosts a Mobile Hotspot, use its gateway IP (192.168.137.1).

❓ How to Control Volume and Subtitles on TV?
Press OK on your TV remote during video playback to reveal the player overlay menu. Select the Subtitles 💬 icon to choose embedded track subtitles, or use the volume keys on your remote.
